Watering Your Lawn

The trick to keeping your lawn healthy and green is not under or overwatering. When your turf is first installed you want to water it daily until it is rooted. After that first two weeks, then you will want to water your lawn about 1.5 inches per week and mow weekly.

When to Mow Your Lawn

Even though it takes up to two weeks for the sod to root in the ground, it is still growing. Novasack Turf Farms recommends mowing your new lawn 6-7 days after installation. You should not be mowing more than 1/3 of an inch off of the blade each mow.

Fertilizing Your Lawn

Fertilizing helps to prevent any diseases or weeds from killing your grass. Novasack recommends feeding your lawn from March 1st to 30th and May 1st to May 20th. Fertilizing for the last week of June is optional. Resume regular fertilization from September 1st to September 15th and October 20th to November 1st. From October to November we recommend using 30 lbs. of lime per 1000 sq. ft. of lawn.
Common Issues
  • Crabgrass: You should apply crabgrass herbicide after April 1st, before May 10th.
  • Broad Leaf Weed: You must water your lawn for this herbicide to stick. You should apply between April and November when the temperature is below 85 degrees. Do not water lawn for 48 hours after herbicide application.
  • Grub and Insects: If you notice more grub or pests than usual in your lawn, use Dylox, Proxal or Triumph to eradicate.
  • Turf Grass Diseases: You can alternate between Chipco 26019 and Daconil to eliminate brown patch, leaf spot and dollar spot. To get rid of Pythium blight, use Tersan S.P. or Subdue, and to eradicate fusarium or summer patch use Tersan 1991 or Banner.
